David Capco is a cell biologist who studies how different types of cells in the human body relate to disease, illness, and birth defects. Whether studying cells that act as a protective barrier, those that cross barriers, or the signals communicated between those cells, Capco and his team research networks of cells and how cells use communication signals to regulate the healthy body.
Professor Capco’s main focus is on how disease alters cell communication signals and how the body tries to bring the communication system back into balance. Currently, the team focuses on the challenges presented by nanoparticles, which can disrupt protective cellular barriers and negatively impact health. By altering communication signals and nanoparticle exposure, they hope to learn ways to disrupt cancer cell growth.
