Desiree D. Crawl joined ASU in February 2016 as the Coordinator Sr. for the Arizona NASA Space Grant program. Her career in education administration has been almost as diverse as academia itself. At Tulane University she worked in the Tulane Cancer Center and the Department of Anatomy. At Georgetown University, she held a position at the National Biomedical Research Center building a web interface to house all the proteins that were sequenced in the Human Genome Project. Later, she returned to The Ohio State University where she coordinated two undergraduate research programs (REU’s): the Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation which is a statewide program where Ohio State was the lead institution; and the Summer Research Opportunities Program, a Big 10 Academic Alliance program whose members consisted of all Big 10 conference institutions and the University of Chicago. Both programs focus on creating a recruitment pipeline for channeling underrepresented minorities into graduate education through advising, faculty-mentored research experiences and presentations.
