Long Bio
Abby Saavedra (she/her) is a Ph.D. student in the Family and Human Development program at Arizona State University. Her research is centered on sociopolitical development for students of color and primarily Asian American students. Her research interests combine her background in Clinical Psychology with her interests in Asian American Studies and Liberation Psychology, spanning over topic areas such as:
- Critical consciousness and racial identity development,
- Asian American activism,
- Mental health and radical healing for communities of color, and
- Racial socialization in communities, schools, and on social media.
Abby's academic pursuits are proudly rooted in her identity as a Filipina American daughter of immigrants and over ten years of experience in student and community organizing and service with Filipinx American communities and students of color in California.
