Long Bio
Farah Najar Arevalo is a doctoral candidate at ASU’s School for the Future of Innovation in Society, where she earned a MSc in Global Technology and Development in 2019. Farah holds a BA in International Relations from the Instituto Tecnológico de Estudios Superiores de Occidente (ITESO). She is interested in the study of smart cities, and urban infrastructures through feminism in order to understand how these technologies impact the lives of women and non-normative users of urban technologies.
She works as Research Assistant (RA) at the School for the Future of Innovation in Society, and serves as the Assembly President of the Graduate and Professional Student Association.Farah worked previously as RA at ASU’s Center for Smart Cities and Regions. Before her PhD Studies, she participated as instructor in MIT’s program Middle East Entrepreneurs of Tomorrow where she taught to Israeli and Palestinian youth. During her masters studies Farah worked as a Teaching Assistant and did an internship at City of Tempe, Arizona and an USAID research program in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
Before coming to graduate school, Farah gained experience in Mexico in the nonprofit sector and government. She worked in Jalisco’s project Guadalajara Ciudad Creativa Digital and Jalisco’s Institute for Information Technology (IJALTI).
