Dr. Lauren Savaglio Battles is an Associate Teaching Professor at Arizona State University with appointments in the College of Health Solutions and the School of Technology for Public Health. Within the College of Health Solutions, she serves as Program Director for the BS in Health Sciences and BAS in Applied Sciences (Health Sciences). Her teaching and academic leadership span health sciences, public and population health, health care systems, health communication, research literacy, medical and health care ethics, and environmental and occupational health.
Dr. Savaglio Battles earned her EdD in Leadership and Innovation from Arizona State University and her MS in Global Health from George Mason University. Her scholarly and professional interests focus on student success, faculty and student mentoring, self-efficacy, health education, health equity, global health, and innovative approaches to teaching and learning. Her doctoral research examined the impact of faculty mentoring on students' self-efficacy and perceptions of college completion.
Mentorship and student development are central to her work. She has mentored undergraduate and graduate students across academic, research, capstone, and professional development experiences and provides mentorship to faculty and teaching assistants. Her academic leadership and service also include curriculum development, experiential learning, global engagement, and initiatives designed to strengthen student learning and professional preparation.
Her professional background includes work in environmental and preventive health, global health, HIV/AIDS, health disparities, and health education. Earlier in her career, she contributed to research in environmental health, bioethics, pathology, veterans' health, HIV/AIDS, and global health. She also brings direct clinical and community experience to her work as a nationally registered and state-certified Emergency Medical Technician.
Across her teaching, leadership, mentorship, and service, Dr. Savaglio Battles focuses on connecting academic learning with professional preparation, community engagement, and real-world health challenges.
