Long Bio
Angela Barnes is the Assistant Director of the Lincoln Center for Applied Ethics, where she focuses on education programs both for university students and for the community.
Barnes is a PhD Candidate in Philosophy. Her research focuses on problems related to technology addiction from the perspectives of philosophy of addiction, behavioral economics, philosophy of well-being, applied ethics, and epistemology. Her current research includes projects on the unwarranted trust attitudes that we have towards smart technologies, the nature of addiction and responsibility, and ethics of governmental nudging. She has published in Social Philosophy and Policy.
Barnes founded The Dialectic: ASU's High School Philosophy summer camp in 2021. The Dialectic is an opportunity for high school students to come to campus for a week to grow in their critical thinking abilities and learn about a topic in applied philosophy. Past programs that she has run have been on Productive Political Disagreement, How Technology Affects Well-being, and The Nature of the Self. This year, in partnership with the Lincoln Center, The Dialectic will examine applied ethical issues that we encounter every day.
