The Barthel lab is based at the Translational Genomics Research Institute (TGen) in downtown Phoenix. We are a broadly-focused cancer genomics lab and work to advance our knowledge of the development and evolution of the malignant brain cancer "glioma". Areas of interest include genome instability, cytogenetics, aneuploidy, telomere dysfunction, the spatial and context-dependent nature of tumor development and liquid biopsies.
We are currently seeking a computationally inclined graduate student to work on projects in cancer genome assembly and long-read sequencing. Alternative projects could involve spatial transcriptomics (microscopic) of spatially separated tumor samples (macroscopic).
TGen is equipped with the latest and greatest technologies in these domains, including the PacBio Revio and Oxford Nanopore Promethion long-read sequencers as well as the 10X Xenium and Vizgen MERSCOPE spatial transcriptomics platforms. Interested students should not hesitate to contact Dr. Floris Barthel directly to assess a possible fit in the lab. For more information, please visit the lab's website.
