Dr. Andel is Professor in the Edson College of Nursing and Health Innovation. His research revolves around the examination of risk factors for accelerated cognitive decline and impairment including research on work, retirement and cognitive aging specifically. Using his training as a gerontologist, Dr. Andel has also published in other areas including disaster preparedness, quality of long-term care, and health and aging.
Dr. Andel has affiliations at 2nd Medical Faculty of Charles University in Prague, Czech Republic, International Clinical Research Center at St. Anne's University Hospital in Brno, Czech Republic, and University of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia.
He is a former Fulbright Distinguished Chair to the Australian National University in Canberra (you can view his TED talk delivered in Canberra here).
In 2023, he was elected a lifetime Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science for his achievements in the study of risk factors for age-related cognitive decline and for Alzheimer's disease and other types of dementia.
