Gabby is a PhD Candidate in Writing, Rhetorics, and Literacies at Arizona State University. Her research centers on rhetorical theories, especially disability rhetorics and rhetorics of medicine and diagnosis. Her current work looks at how diagnostic and clinical language structure logics around cure and care in chronic pain diagnoses and treatments, with emphasis on their effects on "non-normative" and marginalized bodies. Her goal is to find meaningful interventions to increase support for both patients and medical professionals as they navigate complex systems, institutions, and experiences. She is functionally bilingual in English and Spanish with expertise in communicating to audiences across contexts, medical humanities, composition and multilingual composition instruction and pedagogy, and publishing, all of which enrich her research and teaching practices in the classroom.
