Dr. Deborah Keller is a double board–certified colorectal surgeon, surgical scientist, innovator, and entrepreneur. She is a Professor in the School of Biological and Health Systems Engineering at Arizona State University and a practicing colorectal surgeon with the Colon & Rectal Clinic of Scottsdale/HonorHealth.
Dr. Keller serves as Program Chair and Director of the IMPACT (Innovations in Medical and Patient Care Technologies) Master’s Program, a flagship collaboration between Arizona State University and Mayo Clinic, and the first U.S. Stanford Biodesign Program Development Affiliate. In this role, she leads multidisciplinary education in need-based health technology innovation, bridging engineering, medicine, and entrepreneurship.
A Stanford Biodesign–trained “quiet disruptor,” Dr. Keller has contributed across the full medical technology lifecycle—from clinical needs identification to clinical trials and FDA clearance—and actively advises MedTech companies developing digital health, wearable, and surgical technologies. She holds leadership roles in multiple international surgical societies and serves as Associate Editor for several leading surgical journals.
Clinically, Dr. Keller specializes in advanced minimally invasive and robotic surgery for inflammatory bowel disease, colorectal cancer, and complex pelvic floor disorders. Her research spans biophotonics, health services research, surgical ergonomics, and quality outcomes. She has led international research collaboratives, authored more than 250 peer-reviewed publications and clinical guidelines, and secured both institutional and extramural funding.
