Derar Serhan is an Assistant Teaching Professor in the School of Mathematical and Statistical Sciences whose research focuses on investigating the effects of the use of technology on students’ learning and attitudes toward mathematics. He is an author of over 30 journal articles and book chapters. He established the ASU Arabic Language Program. His expertise is not limited to mathematics, but also includes Arabic Language & Culture, Educational Technology and Teacher Education.
My research interests include the following:
- Exploring innovative instructional methods that foster active engagement in the classroom and improve students’ attitudes towards mathematics.
- Investigating the effects of the use of technology on students’ learning and attitudes toward mathematics.
- Investigating the use of technology and its effects on teachers and students in K-12 classrooms.
- Exploring innovative ways to apply research findings in the mathematics classroom.
- Professional development of preservice and in-service teachers of mathematics especially in regards to effective technology use in the math class.
