Margaret Coulombe's professional experience ranges from 20 years as a bench-top scientist to professional dog walker, freelance writer and editor. She enjoys translating cutting-edge research into accessible education for the public in audio, web, app and print media formats. She is with the Academic Enterprise Communications group, develops materials for web and print to support the mission of the provost and other senior leaders, and maintains the faculty excellence data stream for the university.

Previously, Coulombe served as the director of academic communications in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. She was managing editor of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences Magazine, and prior to that the School of Life Science Magazine. As the media and marketing manager for School of Life Sciences, she also created and hosted ASU’s Science Studio podcast. She is a core member of the team that founded and built ASU's Night of the Open Door (https://opendoor.asu.edu/), which now attracts 20,000 visitors annually. Prior to her work at ASU, Coulombe was a freelance editor, writer, photographer, dog walker and scientist with National Institutes of Health, Science Applications International Corporation, Uniform Services University of the Health Sciences, Oregon Health Sciences University and University of California, Irvine.
Former head coach of Na Leo O Ke Kai, an outrigger canoe club housed on Tempe Town Lake (2005-2015). She trained and led the first crew from Arizona qualified to compete in the IVF Outrigger World Sprint Championships in Canada in 2012 and received a silver medal at IVF World's in Rio de Janeiro in 2014. She returned to coach Arizona crews (Team Phoenix) to represent the U.S. in the 2022 IVF World Sprint Championships in London. She presently serves on the race committee for IVF-U.S. governing body: USAORCA:https://usaorca.org/ and as a member of Arizona Team Phoenix for the 2024 World Sprints in Hilo.
