Sarat's work explores the intersection of religion and migration in the U.S.-Mexico borderlands, with special attention to ways in which people draw upon religion to formulate notions of belonging and confront challenges.

Prof. Bruner's research engages the history of religion, violence, photography, and ethnography. He is currently engaged in a variety of community-based projects in the desert Southwest of the United States.

Hartung is a scholar of early Christianity and late antiquity. His most recent work focuses on liturgical poems and the formation of Christian imagination and identity in the eastern Roman empire in the fourth century.
