I am a lawyer with over 12 years experience in higher education focusing on speech communication with interests in organizational communication.
In speech communication I'm interested in free expression law and society, and the rhetorical processes that produce and validate social meaning, social structures and processes, and accordingly, coordinated action. This is especially applicable to understanding construction of identity and power and opening paths for critique and progressive change. I have a particular interest in documentary film and its use in social critique.
In organizational communication I'm particularly interested in organizations as complex systems that produce meaning, structures, processes, relationships and outcomes inside and outside organizations. I find this to be an especially productive basis for improving organizational process and identifying, understanding and mitigating organizational risk arising from patterns of human communication.
My related interests span law, free expression, civil society, social and economic justice, civil rights, and education.
