Gary G. Bitter has researched emerging technologies for the last 45 years. He is interested in any approach that attempts to determine the feasibility of m-learning throughout education. Bitter's research includes the impact of integration of technology into the curriculum on student achievement and attitude, "anytime, anywhere" m-learning, National Student and Teacher Technology Standards for the United States and online, app-delivered/video-based student learning, and teacher professional development. His focus on e-learning explores the viability of the smartphone as a student and teacher resource of the future. This includes personalized (artificial Intelligence) learning, augmented learning, virtual learning, cooperative learning, and project based learning.
Professor Bitter is testing his latest app, eyeObserve, to determine its impact on school district coaching methods. He is currently researching the effect of an m-Learning, English speaking software app on students in Thailand at Chiang Rai Municipality Schools 6 and 7. This research includes delivery of the instruction via apps on smartphones. The apps include 12 instant feedback modules with gamified, progressive lessons which result in faster and more engaging learning results. The present research has now expanded to China, and presently several thousand Chinese students are participating.

- M.A. Emporia State University. Thesis: Topology-Cut points of a Plane 1965
- B.S. Kansas State University 1962
Guiding Research Questions:
- How do teachers become familiar with emerging technologies.
- Is there such a thing as personalized learning in Mathematics?
- Can smart phones deliver meaningful instruction and learning?
Current Research Projects:
Bitter is researching the Effect of an m-Learning English Speaking Software App on Students in the Chiang Rai Municipality Schools 6 and 7 in Thailand. This research includes the delivery of the instruction via apps on smart phones. The apps are used to teach children to speak English fluently by providing English audio models and frequent speaking practice with immediate actionable feedback on the English speaking of the students. At present the apps include twelve instant feedback lesson modules with gamified, progressive lessons which result in faster and more engaging learning lessons. The present research has now expanded to China. Presently several thousand Chinese students are participating.
With emerging technologies as a theme, Bitter is exploring personalized, adaptive and augmented learning as it is related to the teaching and learning of mathematics. This research project is to determine the effects of an online collaborative elementary math program using team-based games to improve student math achievement, attitude and motivation.
