Tara Lennon's academic training is in political philosophy and international relations. She earned dual bachelor's in government and psychology at Wesleyan University and her master's and doctorate in political theory and international relations at Arizona State University. Her studies focused on theories of political representation.
Prior to her appointment at ASU, she managed program evaluation teams that assessed state agencies and school districts for the Auditor General's Office—the research branch of the Arizona State Legislature. At ASU, she teaches political theory, researches pedagogy and civil deliberation, and develops courses and student opportunities that integrate her interests in public policy and normative theory. She also oversees ASU’s participation in the Arizona Legislative Internship Program, and directs the School of Politics and Global Studies’ Junior Fellows program and the Politics and Culture of Ireland global experience.
Her research projects include Twitter's impact on civic engagement, active learning and simulations, and the effectiveness of civil deliberation training in and outside of the classroom.
