Matthew earned a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education, as well as a Master of Arts in Philosophy, from Arizona State University. His philosophical interests include selfhood, the philosophy of death and dying, ancient philosophy (particularly, Stoicism), the philosophy of dehumanization, moral psychology, environmental ethics, self-transformation, philosophy of mind, and the relation between values and emotions. Recently becoming a father, Matthew’s upcoming research projects are likely to concern the nature of childhood and associated topics, from moral education to the development of symbolic selfhood and conceptions of meaningfulness.
