Michael Todd, drawing on training in social psychology, health psychology, alcohol and tobacco use, daily process research, and statistical methods, serves as a collaborating statistician working primarily on externally-funded research projects with faculty and trainees in ASU’s College of Nursing and Health Innovation and College of Health Solutions. His interdisciplinary collaborations have generally focused on psychological well-being, health behaviors, and health-related physiological outcomes.
Professor Todd’s current funded projects include interventions aimed at (a) increasing physical activity in adults and children, (b) improving nutrition-related behaviors in children and families, (c) improving the psychological well-being of cancer patients and individuals with early stage dementias as well as that of their caregivers, and (d) improving diabetes-related health behaviors in Veteran’s Administration patients.
Other funded projects include observational studies focusing on (a) the role of young adults’ social networks in guiding nutrition and physical activity behaviors, (b) testing models of associations of dyadic communication patterns with psychological well-being and relationship satisfaction in cancer patients and their partners, (c) understanding behavioral health patients’ preferences for sharing of personal health information, and (d) examining how local food retail and policy environments predict child and adolescent obesity.
He also consults with and mentors undergraduate and graduate students on academic thesis and dissertation research projects.
