Dr. Mei Mei is an interdisciplinary researcher whose work bridges technical systems, psychology, learning sciences, and social contexts to advance AI in education (AIED). Her research spans from investigating why AIED systems work to exploring how they can empower human agency in meaningful, equitable ways. She develops interdisciplinary artifacts (concepts, theories, methodologies, and frameworks) to guide the design and evaluation of AIED systems responsive to the real-world needs and experiences of students and teachers.
She is particularly curious about three linked questions about learning and technology:
• Human–AI Agency: Do AI have agency? How do humans and AI interact within distributed networks of agency, and what does this interaction lead to?
• Evaluation-Driven AIED Design: What practical approaches help us evaluate AIED systems so they support meaningful learning?
• Self-Education in an AI Age: How is agency- and curiosity-driven self-education practiced as AI becomes part of how we think and learn?
