Long Bio
Cheryl Johnson joined Arizona State University (ASU) in 2019 as an IT Project Manager in the University Technology Office (UTO). At UTO, she currently is a Product Owner in Product & Programs. She is transitioning to Product Owner of the Academic Personnel Actions Reporting System (APARS) and works closely with the APARS Team to understand stakeholder needs, build relationships, foster communication and fully engage APARS’ service delivery model. In addition to her work on APARS, she manages UTO enterprise-wide projects including Preferred Name and Culture Ripples.
She is certified by the Project Management Institute as a Project Management Professional, is Scrum Master and Scrum Product Owner certified by VMEdu, Inc. In addition, she is a PMBOK Team Member on ASU’s Project Management Network Board. She is also a contributor on UTO’s Culture Weavers and a workgroup on Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging.
She previously worked at Cuyahoga Health and Human Services in Information Services, in Ohio, for about 15 years. She began at CHHS as a Senior Training Officer, was promoted to Help Desk Supervisor and then to IT Project Manager. One of her major business process improvement projects at CHHS, at over $1 million, moved benefits eligibility from back-end scanning of eligibility documentation to front-end scanning. This project not only significantly reduced paper waste, it created major efficiencies for the agency through electronic content management and automated workflows. It also improved applicants’ user experience and reduced eligibility determination turnaround time.
She relocated to Arizona in 2016 and is passionate about family: family we choose and family who choose us.
