Susmeet Bakshi is a PhD student in Electrical Engineering at Arizona State University, specializing in Computational Optics. His current research involves the development of high-performance numerical solvers to study quantum molecular dynamics in strongly coupled light-matter systems. He works on implementing split-operator and Discrete Variable Representation (DVR) methods in Fortran, enabling accurate simulations of wavepacket evolution and energy spectra in cavity-coupled quantum systems. His interests span quantum dynamics, optical cavity QED, nonlinear optics, and photonic device modeling.
During his Master's in Electrical Engineering (Physical Electronics and Photonics) at ASU, Susmeet investigated the role of Quantum Fisher Information in enhancing quantum metrology, and studied phase estimation limits in interferometric systems such as the Mach-Zehnder interferometer.
Prior to his current endeavors, Susmeet completed his Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from Kalyani Govt. Engineering College, India. His journey in research began at the Indian Institute of Technology Madras, India, where he served as a Research Project Associate on the "LIGO R&D for India" project. In this role, he focused on Control and Optimization as well as Optics, contributing to the development of crucial aspects of the LIGO R&D project in India, including Fabry-Perot cavity locking and laser injection locking using Pound–Drever–Hall (PDH) techniques.
Susmeet brings a wealth of experience, including previous internship engagements at the Indian Institute of Technology Madras, where he explored the field of Second Harmonic Generation, further enriching his expertise in optics and photonics. He also has served as a research intern at one of the research dedicated institutes, PPISR in India during his Bachelor's where he came across the vast field of Quantum Computing and Quantum Information and started gaining interest in the field.
Beyond his academic and research pursuits, Susmeet is a cinephile with a penchant for European soccer. He also indulges his creative side through painting, showcasing his diverse interests. He has a Diploma in Painting as well.
