Rebecca F. Nelson is an undergraduate student researcher at Arizona State University with a formal background in healthcare innovation and social behavioral sciences. Her research interests center on youth development and how research-based interventions can prevent maladaptive behavior before adulthood. She is particularly interested in how the primary domains of social functioning (e.g. peer socialization, family relationships, academic stress) intersect with identity development and influence social and emotional outcomes in youth and adolescents.
Rebecca has extensive knowledge in public health and disparities amongst underrepresented groups and has worked within ASU’s Edson College of Nursing and Health Innovation to integrate healthcare expertise with applied interventions, namely through early childhood education interventions. With her comprehensive knowledge of the social sciences, Rebecca has held mentorship positions within her research labs to facilitate active learning amongst her peers.
Upon completion of her undergraduate degree, Rebecca intends to pursue a doctoral degree in human development and family science, with an emphasis on youth socialization. She plans on continuing her research interests within academia and hopes to change her community through informing local policy and making a real-world impact on youth’s health and social outcomes.
