Dr. Miller began his education in psychological science working with the Harm Reduction Therapy Center in San Francisco's Tenderloin neighborhood. After receiving his doctorate at UC Davis in 2019, he spent two and a half years as a researcher at the University of Geneva working with Prof. Paolo Ghisletta on the EU's Horizon 2020 Lifebrain project studying brain health and development over the lifespan. Dr. Miller has now returned to the US and to his original research interests in the prevention, amelioration, and treatment of harmful behaviors, especially in younger people, by joining the REACH Institute's T32 training program as a postdoctoral fellow at ASU. His principle mentors are Prof. Kevin Grimm and Prof. Cady Berkel.

Dr. Miller's interests lie primarily in the prevention and amelioration of harms of risky actions such as drug use and sexual behaviors. In particular, he interested in these topics in high-risk populations.
Dr. Miller studies these areas as a methodologist, taking primary responsibility for research methods and design as well as data analysis. He also applies other computational techniques, in particular simulation, to study how individuals, organizations, and systems interact, coordinate, and cooperate to produce outcomes. Dr. Miller's current interests are focused on how to apply evidence-based interventions in real-world settings.
