Dr. Karkee, a graduate in international public health from University College London (MSc with Erasmus Mundus Scholarship) and Curtin University (PhD, with Australia Awards), has over 15 years of experience in teaching, research, and consultancy in Public Health. He started his academic career at B.P. Koirala Institute of Health Sciences, Nepal in 2006 by coordinating the Master in Public Health (MPH) course and teaching a number of courses related to primary health care and health system, health promotion, research methods, project design and evaluation, and reproductive health to undergraduate and graduate students.
Dr. Karkee has experience in mentoring student research projects, in evaluating health projects implemented by various international non-governmental organizations (FHI, Plan International and Save the Children), and in research in Global Public Health: primary health care utilization, quality of maternity services, causes of maternal morbidity and mortality, gender preference, abortions, family planning, infant feeding, and migrant health issues pertaining to sustainable development Goals 3 and 5 (Over 70 Publications, Google Profile).

My research interests are in global public health in the areas of maternity service utilization, quality of maternity services, causes of maternal morbidity and mortality, gender preference, abortions, family planning, infant feeding, and migrant health issues. These includes sustainable development goals 3.1, 3.2, 3.7 and 5. I am also interested in integrated health system, focusing on primary health care delivery and performance.
