Hi, I’m Yassine Dguidegue! Let me start by saying that talking about myself is no easy task—it always feels a little strange. But here goes!
I’m passionate about building bridges—between cultures, ideas, and disciplines—to creatively tackle global challenges. At Arizona State University's School for the Future of Innovation in Society, I have the privilege of serving as the Program Chair for the Global Technology and Development Master’s Program and as a Clinical Assistant Professor.
With a Ph.D. in Rural Sociology and a background spanning cross-cultural studies and pedagogy, I explore how society, technology, and sustainable development intersect to shape our future. My research dives into topics like agricultural innovation, food security, and the fascinating (and sometimes tricky) world of artificial intelligence.
I’m all about learning by doing. Whether it’s collaborating with communities in the US, the Bahamas, Morocco, Vietnam, Panama, or El Salvador, I’ve seen firsthand how experiential education can create lasting change. My work focuses on bridging the gap between academic research and real-world action/ non-academic communities, designing innovative curricula, mentoring students, and fostering policy discussions that bring diverse perspectives to the table.
Outside of work, I enjoy playing soccer, experimenting in the kitchen, or trying to keep up with dance moves from different cultures. I’ve found that these hobbies not only bring me joy but also inspire creativity and connection in my teaching. These hobbies have informed my scholarly work at the national and international level.
Whether I’m mentoring students, designing programs, or researching the intersections of technology and society, I’m driven by the belief that meaningful change starts with meaningful collaboration: my contributions hold no meaning unless they are rooted in community focus and built through genuine collaboration with the communities I serve.

Applied Projects :
Throughout my career, I have been involved in international applied research aimed at addressing real-world problems, with projects spanning experiential learning, policy analysis, curriculum development, and community-based research. I view these efforts not as my individual research, but as collaborative work with communities to solve persistent issues, using both basic and participatory research methods. My role within these projects varies, sometimes acting as a facilitator, other times as a contributing member, and at times taking on the responsibilities of a coordinator or leader to ensure alignment and progress.
Current research Projects:
- AI and education
- Curriculum of International Development
- Applications of Pedagogy of gaming

My teaching philosophy: my true growth as a teacher comes from maintaining the mindset of a learner, never allowing professional titles to distance me from the goals and challenges of those I teach.
I have always believed that my contributions are most meaningful when they are rooted in community and collaboration. Over the years, I’ve been fortunate to engage in a variety of public service activities that reflect my passion for learning, community empowerment, and global development. For instance, I’ve had the pleasure of volunteering with Heifer International in Arkansas, Missouri, and California, helping to support communities through experiential learning education on global poverty and hunger. I also organized events like the Building Community Potluck Dinner and Town Hall, where we focused on important, yet sometimes sensitive topics such as race, refugees, and immigration. In addition, I’ve worked with organizations like MENA Policy Hub and YAANI, where I helped facilitate policy discussions aimed at fostering greater understanding and positive change. One of the more recent experiences I’m especially proud of is my role as a volunteer with the 2024 Changemakers in STEM Virtual Youth Congress, where I helped engage young minds in STEM fields and encouraged them to become future changemakers.
I’ve also had the opportunity to work closely with organizations like FFA and 4-H in the Midwest, encouraging kids to consider farming-related career paths. These programs have been an incredible way to inspire the next generation of leaders in agriculture and sustainability.
Whether it's supporting local events like the COMO Africa Fest, where I taught children about Moroccan traditions, or judging debates at the Arkansas Diamond Speech and Debate, I’m always seeking ways to serve and engage with communities. I've also had the privilege of conducting civic engagement trainings and supporting programs like Preparing Tomorrow’s Leaders for Science (PTLS), all of which have enriched my own understanding of how to best mentor and support others.
Through my work with organizations as well as my contributions at universities, I’ve seen firsthand the power of collaboration and the impact it can have on shaping the future. I’m deeply grateful for these experiences and always open to new opportunities to learn and give back.
