Dr. Jason Covert is an educator, researcher, and learning designer specializing in adult and online learning. At Arizona State University, he serves as an Instructional Designer with the Lodestar Center for Philanthropy and Nonprofit Innovation and as an Academic Associate in the Learning Design and Technologies M.Ed. and Certificate programs within the Mary Lou Fulton College of Teaching and Learning Innovation. Through his work at ASU, Dr. Covert contributes to both instructional design and graduate teaching, partnering with faculty and subject matter experts while teaching courses in learning design and technology that support applied, learner-centered outcomes.
Dr. Covert brings more than 20 years of experience in higher education, with expertise spanning learning design, instructional design, curriculum development, online learning, doctoral education, and research-informed innovation. His work integrates user-centered design, instructional strategy, and data-informed improvement to create rigorous and relevant learning environments for adult learners.
In addition to his work at ASU, Dr. Covert serves in a doctoral leadership role at the University of Phoenix, where he supports dissertation and research quality, program development, and student success initiatives. He also teaches in the doctoral program and serves on dissertation committees, advancing scholarly practice and applied research.
Dr. Covert holds a Doctor of Education in Leadership and Innovation from Arizona State University, along with master’s degrees in Educational Technology and Adult Education and a bachelor’s degree in psychology.
His research interests include multimedia learning and the cognitive and affective factors that influence adult learning, particularly motivation and perceptions of usefulness and value in online learning environments.
