Long Bio
My name is Sharifa Asiri, and I am a PhD student in Linguistics and Applied Linguistics. My research focuses on sociolinguistics and second language learning, with particular interest in dialect shift, language ideologies, language attitudes, and learner identity, as well as the intersection of language and education.
I employ qualitative research methods to explore the lived experiences of individuals and communities, examining how language is used across diverse social and cultural contexts. My work aims to illuminate the complex factors that shape linguistic choices, including the roles of power, ideology, and inequality in influencing communication and social interaction.
Ultimately, I aim to support learners and communities in developing a stronger sense of identity while promoting equity and inclusion in educational settings, workplaces, and beyond.
