Jason is a nationally recognized leader in law enforcement, crime prevention, and public safety education, with more than three decades of distinguished service across municipal policing, higher education, and public-sector training. His multifaceted career spans roles as a police officer, detective, educator, trainer, public information officer, and crime prevention strategist, with a consistent focus on fostering safer communities through innovation, collaboration, and education.
Currently serving as the Crime Prevention Programs Manager for the Arizona State University Police Department, Jason directs a comprehensive portfolio of campus safety initiatives and communication strategies across ASU’s expansive network of campuses, including locations in Tempe, Phoenix, Mesa, Los Angeles, Washington D.C., and even Bermuda. In this role, he not only develops and implements evidence-based crime prevention programs—such as sexual assault awareness, personal safety, and residence hall security—but also assists with the department’s media relations and social media outreach. His work integrates concepts from Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED), Situational Crime Prevention, and Problem-Oriented Policing to reduce risk and enhance public safety in diverse academic environments.
Prior to joining ASU, Jason served as Public Safety Training Director and Instructor at Northeast Wisconsin Technical College (NWTC), where he led the development and delivery of more than 200 annual training sessions for thousands of public safety professionals. His curriculum design work covered cutting-edge topics such as nuisance abatement, crime prevention, community policing, and media engagement. In this capacity, he also worked closely with government agencies, first responders, and educators to improve organizational preparedness and promote proactive safety planning.
Jason’s career in municipal policing spans 28 years with the Menasha (WI) Police Department and Fox Crossing (WI) Police Department, where he held positions ranging from patrol officer and field training officer to detective and community liaison officer. As community liaison officer for over a decade, he pioneered public engagement strategies, coordinated major events, and served as the department’s primary media spokesperson. His tenure saw the implementation of Nuisance Abatement and the Intelligence Led Policing model, which modernized internal operations through the development of data-driven crime reports, surveillance integration, and a robust intranet resource for officers.
Throughout his career, Jason has served as a consultant and national instructor for agencies such as Wisconsin Safe & Healthy Schools and the National Criminal Justice Training Center, providing expertise in crisis management, drug abuse prevention, and crime prevention/community policing. He has conducted more than 300 security assessments for schools, religious institutions, and Fortune 500 companies nationwide, helping organizations identify vulnerabilities and implement best-practice mitigation strategies.
Among Jason’s most impactful contributions is his leadership of the Good Drugs Gone Bad initiative—a pharmaceutical abuse prevention toolkit that earned national acclaim and endorsement by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). His work in this area has been showcased at conferences across the country and recognized with multiple awards, including the prestigious Sir Robert Peel Award from the Wisconsin Association of Community Oriented Police.
Jason is also a published author and subject matter expert. His written works include local northeast Wisconsin history to policing topics and most recently a textbook From Theory to Action: Crime Prevention in Modern Society. He has contributed extensively to training programs on identity theft, active shooter preparedness, and robbery prevention for organizations such as JJ Keller and the Credit Union National Association.
His expertise is routinely sought by media outlets, and he served as a regular crime prevention correspondent for a Wisconsin Fox affiliate from 2010 to 2019. Jason has received numerous commendations and honors, including “Practitioner of the Year” by the Wisconsin Crime Prevention Practitioners Association, “Social Media Award” from NWTC, and multiple Chief’s Commendations for outstanding investigative and community work.
A graduate of Bellevue University (B.S. Criminal Justice Administration, Honors) and Fox Valley Technical College (A.A.S. Criminal Justice, Honors), Jason also holds numerous professional certifications from the Wisconsin Department of Justice, including credentials as a law enforcement instructor and communications trainer. He is certified as a Level II Crime Prevention Specialist (National Crime Prevention Council), Crime Prevention Specialist (WI and OH), as well as Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events/Critical Care, CPTED, Field Training, Media Relations, and more.
Jason has held leadership roles in several professional organizations, including serving as Vice President of the Wisconsin Crime Prevention Practitioners Association, and is currently an active member of the Arizona and East Valley Crime Prevention Associations. His dedication to public safety extends beyond his professional life, with extensive volunteer service to community boards, prevention coalitions, and civic organizations.
Through a career defined by service, innovation, and public trust, Jason continues to be a driving force in the evolution of crime prevention and public safety across multiple sectors.
