Mikey Foster Estes (he/they) is Galleries Director for the School of Art within Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts. He received his MFA in Studio Art from Hunter College, City University of New York in 2018, and completed his BFA in Sculpture at Arizona State University in 2014. In 2016, Estes participated in the SOMA Summer international residency program in Mexico City, with particular focus on the archive and its relationship to aesthetics and politics. His critical writing on art has appeared in publications such as Java Magazine, Phoenix New Times, and The Arts Beacon. His artistic practice, which spans film/video, performance, photography, sculpture, sound, and writing, is rooted in the language of everyday life and personal narrative, and often refers to how the inner world of the self is mediated through structures, objects, and images. His works have been presented in solo and group exhibitions in the United States and Europe. Recent solo exhibitions include Me loving you/You loving me, Eye Lounge, Phoenix, AZ (2022) and Private Rainbows, Microscope Gallery, New York, NY (2018). His work is currently part of a traveling retrospective organized by Project Art Distribution (P.A.D), a non-traditional exhibition space based in New York.
