Matt Meier received his B.A. from the University of Kansas and Psy.D. from Forest Institute of Professional Psychology. He is a licensed psychologist and has served as a clinical director in multiple community mental health and substance abuse treatment centers. Dr. Meier is the Associate Director of Clinical Training and a supervisor at the Clinical Psychology Center. He also supervises an Integrated Health-Behavioral Health program at ASU Health Services. Dr. Meier’s clinical focus in on the treatment of co-occurring mental and substance use disorders. This interest has evolved into a focus on transdiagnostic treatment approaches, and Dr. Meier is currently conducting research at the Phoenix VA on a fully transdiagnostic, open-enrollment group treatment.

My area of expertise is in the treatment of co-occurring mental and substance use disorders. This interest has evolved into a focus on transdiagnostic treatment approaches. I have developed a cognitive-behavioral transdiagnostic group treatment that addresses unmet needs in community mental health settings -- evidence-based practices that can treat comorbidity in a continous enrollment, group therapy format. This treatment is currently being piloted at the Phoenix VA.
Additional interests include dissimination and implementation research, treatment outcome evaluation, and the effectiveness of behavioral health services in Integrated Health settings. I also provide clinical supervision for an ongoing implementation and dissemination grant studying an adolescent drug abuse prevention program, Optimizing a Drug Abuse Prevention Program for Dissemination.
