Laura Dicochea earned her PhD in Transborder Studies from Arizona State University. Her research specializes in transnational and transfronterize students in higher education in Mexico and the United States. She critically examines their transnational movement across borders, as well as the educational challenges and opportunities of navigating both educational systems.
Currently, as part of the Office of the Dean of Students in Student Advocacy, she continues to advance her commitment to student success. Building on her foundational work with Access ASU, she brings her scholarship into practice by collaborating with colleges, departments, and student service units. She designs pathways that connect transnational students and students from other immigrant backgrounds with critical resources for academic success, career and professional development, student life and belonging, and mental health support, among others. Through a holistic and student-centered approach, Laura has strengthened retention, fostered deeper engagement, and cultivated a sense of belonging on campus.
Throughout her research, Laura informs language and educational policy. This work addresses educational access, student success, and institutional practices in K–12 and higher education in Mexico and the United States. Her more recent work includes developing instructional and pedagogical frameworks for educators in Mexico, in collaboration with the Secretaría de Educación y Cultura (SEC) of the State of Sonora, to support the inclusion and academic success of transnational students.
