Kim Lopez is a professor in the Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College. Her career in education spans over twenty-five years, and includes work as an elementary teacher, ESL Specialist, Reading Specialist, and Literacy Director. Kim has also worked in the non-profit sector doing teacher training, staff development and program management. She holds a Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction as well as specialist credentials in English as a Second Language and Reading/Literacy. Her passion lies in the area of literacy and reading education, where she thoroughly enjoys mentoring and providing instruction to pre-service students, teachers and administrators to advance their knowledge of best practices in the field of literacy.
Having lived all around the world as part of an Air Force family, her experiences working with and in different school systems has spurred her interest in advocacy work for teacher licensure portability efforts. She has helped pass legislation to change licensure policies and currently serves on the Advisory Boards for the Heroes to Education project and the Council of State Governments Interstate Compact for Teacher Licensure Reciprocity. She is also a Governor's Board Member for the Arizona State Council on the Education for Military Children.
