Maribel Guerrero is an Associate Professor of Public Policy and Management at the School of Public Affairs and Global Center for Technology Transfer at ASU.
Dr. Guerrero is an Editor of the Small Business Economics Journal and Regional Studies Journal, an Associate Editor of the Journal of Technology Transfer and the Journal of Small Business Management, and a member of the Advisory Board of Research Policy.
Dr. Guerrero holds master and doctoral degrees in Business Economics from the Department of Business of the Autonomous University of Barcelona (Spain). Her doctoral dissertation focused on how universities could become more entrepreneurial for impacting regional development. Her main research interests are the managerial and public policy implications of entrepreneurship, technology transfer, innovation, and entrepreneurial ecosystems.
Dr. Guerrero is an active research fellow involved in outstanding global projects that measure entrepreneurship, innovation, and ecosystems: Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM- Spain, Chile, and Belarus), Panel Studies of Entrepreneurial Dynamics (PSED- Spain), Global University Entrepreneurial Spirit Students' Survey (GUESSS- Belarus), and Family Enterprising (STEP-Chile and Mexico).
Dr. Guerrero is the director of the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM-Chile, Universidad del Desarrollo, Chile), an affiliated member of the CIRCLE – Centre for Innovation Research (Lund University, Sweden), and research visiting at EGADE Business School – Tecnológico de Monterrey (Mexico), and Universidad Autónoma de Guadalajara (Mexico). Previously, she was a professor of entrepreneurship at the School of Business and Economics (Universidad del Desarrollo, Chile), an associate professor of entrepreneurship at Newcastle Business School (Northumbria University, UK), an associate professor at the Deusto Business School (Deusto, Spain), and researcher at the Basque Institute of Competitiveness (Spain).
Dr. Guerrero is the founding director of the Spanish Observatory of University Entrepreneurship (CRUE, 2016) and a founding member of the Northumbria Centre for Innovation, Regional Transformation, and Entrepreneurship (iNCITE, 2018). Dr. Guerrero had participated/led international research projects securing the income sponsored by Santander Bank (MetaRedx), Global Entrepreneurship Research Association (GERA), Spanish Ministries (Education, Economy, and Industry), Regional Spanish Governments (Catalonia and Basque Country), the Mexican Council of Science and Technology (CONACYT), the Chilean Research Council (CONICYT), the IFC World Bank Development (Belarus), the HEInnovate platform sponsored by the OCDE/European Commission, the Misum Stockholm School of Economics (Sweden), and the AACSB (USA). Dr. Guerrero has been accredited by the Mexican Council of Science and Technology (Abroad Mexican Researcher SNI-III, CONACYT), the UK Higher Education Association fellowship, and the Basque Country Accreditation Agency.
Moreover, she serves on the AoM Entrepreneurship Division Executive Committee (re-elected treasurer 2018-2024), a board member of the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor Association (GERA 2021-2023), jury of the Cartier Women's Initiative in Latin America and the Caribbean (2022-2023), Technology Transfer Society (President), and others.
