Dr. Brian Reece (he/him/his) is the Associate Dean of Students for Arizona State University. In this role, he provides oversight for the Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities and serves on the Student Services leadership team.
Prior to joining ASU, Dr. Reece served in several roles at Hawai’i Pacific University in Honolulu, including Associate Dean of Students where he oversaw student housing, student conduct, and alcohol and drug education initiatives. Dr. Reece also served in leadership positions in residential life at Colgate University and in career services at the University of Miami, and he has taught a variety of undergraduate and graduate courses in queer studies, women's studies, leadership development, and career counseling. Throughout 15 years of working in higher education and student affairs, he has championed efforts to advance justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion on college campuses across the United States.
Dr. Reece has served in a variety of national leadership positions, including serving for over a decade on the directorate board for the ACPA—College Student Educators International Commission for Social Justice Education (most recently as Chair), the ACPA Strategic Imperative for Racial Justice and Decolonization Curricular Resources Advisory Committee, the Association of College and University Housing Officers—International Anti-Racism Task Force, and the Consortium of Higher Education LGBT Resource Professionals. He is also currently a reviewer for the Journal of Critical Scholarship in Higher Education and Student Affairs.
Dr. Reece’s research and scholarship has focused on social justice in higher education, student affairs as teaching and learning, career development, and more. He has published and presented on a variety of topics, including co-editing the book Debunking the Myth of Job Fit in Student Affairs, which analyzed recruitment and hiring practices in higher education.
