My research is focused on the cooling benefits of trees in Guadalajara, Jalisco Mexico, a major city the size of Phoenix in a subtropical climate and developing country. There is a gap in research my work c an contribute to on the benefits of trees as a nature based solution to heat mitigation in a major city. My research will make use of the ENVI-met modeling software, a qualitative portion based on interviews of government action and plans, and a literature review on heat mitigation subtropical climates. I became interested in this area of sustainability because I paint landscapes and want to dedicate my life to contributing to the design of cities, specifically to promoting the design of the built environment with trees, green spaces, natural corridors, and nature based solutions to climate change challenges faces by cities. Taking my research to Mexico allows me to contribute to my family's country and make use of all the resources at ASU has available in the research area of heat mitigation.
