Matthew Meisel is a Faculty Associate at Arizona State University, where he teaches courses in leadership, organizational culture, and project management. He earned a Master of Science in Organizational Leadership from Arizona State University, graduating as the top student in the College of Integrative Sciences and Arts. His graduate research focused on empathetic leadership and self-leading teams, earning recognition from the university.
During his time at ASU, Matthew served as President of Omicron Delta Kappa, the National Leadership Honor Society, and was a member of the Graduate Student Government. Additionally, he worked as an Instructional Aide supporting undergraduate leadership and management courses. His academic and professional work centers on fostering empathy-driven leadership practices and cultivating environments where individuals and teams can thrive through collaboration, integrity, and purpose.
Before entering academia, Matthew spent over a decade as a District, Regional, and Operations Director for large retail and healthcare organizations, leading more than 300 employees and managing nearly half a billion dollars in annualized revenue. His background in corporate operations and people development shaped his belief that strong leadership begins with emotional intelligence, communication, and accountability.
Currently based in South Carolina, Matthew also serves as a Deputy Sheriff with the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office. His experience in law enforcement continues to influence his teaching philosophy, emphasizing composure, ethical decision-making, and servant leadership in high-pressure environments.
Beyond his professional commitments, Matthew is passionate about mentorship, family, and lifelong learning. He remains dedicated to developing leaders who combine competence with compassion, individuals who lead with purpose and positively impact their organizations and communities.
