Deborah Way is an instructor in the Hugh Downs School of Communication. She came to ASU in 2002 to pursue her doctoral degree in organizational health communication in which she studied the communication of compassion in hospice workers. Her teaching career at ASU began at that time as a graduate teaching assistant, and she has continued to work for the university since that time.
Although Deborah taught on the Tempe campus from 2002-2010, she transitioned to teaching solely online in 2011. Currently, she teaches both undergraduate courses and in the online M.A. program. Since she began her teaching career at ASU, she has had the opportunity to not only teach over 18 different courses, but to develop courses for the online program.
As a self-proclaimed ‘late academic bloomer,’ Way has a passion for online education, recognizing not only the need for a format accessible to the non-traditional college student, but the passion and commitment these students have for the opportunity to obtain a college degree in the face of life circumstances that might otherwise prevent them from doing so.
