Catheryn Reardon, PhD, is an Assistant Teaching Professor of Psychology and AI Strategist for the Psychology Digital Immersion Programs in the School of Social and Behavioral Sciences at Arizona State University. She is affiliated with the Arizona State University Learning Engineering Institute (LEI). Her scholarship explores the intersection of artificial intelligence, human decision-making, cognitive resilience, and teaching and learning in higher education. Her work focuses on preparing learners to think critically, make informed decisions, and effectively collaborate with AI while preserving human judgment and agency.
Dr. Reardon's research examines AI-supported learning, research literacy, critical thinking, metacognition, ethical AI use, and innovative approaches to teaching in digital learning environments. She is particularly interested in how emerging technologies can enhance learning while strengthening the uniquely human cognitive skills that remain essential in the age of artificial intelligence.
Her earlier research focused on instructor social presence and empathy in online education, culminating in the book Instructor Social Presence: An Essential Tool for Online Student Engagement and Persistence in Higher Education. She also contributed the chapter "Engineers Welcome: Designing and Teaching STEM Online" in Managing Online Learning: The Life Cycle of Successful Programs. She regularly presents on artificial intelligence in education, online teaching, learning design, and the future of human decision-making in an AI-enabled society.
Before joining higher education, Dr. Reardon taught high school English, an experience that continues to shape her passion for writing instruction, critical thinking, and student-centered learning.
