Long Bio
Linda C. Caterino has four main research areas: 1) child and adolescent psychopathology and evaluation; 2) gifted students and social skills; 3) cyberbullying, and 4) professional issues in school psychology. She explores topics relating to Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), specifically looking at the relationship between working memory and ADHD, creating an internationally used ADHD rating scale for adolescents and adults in the process. Caterino formerly focused on anxiety disorders and has been involved in a training program to lessen anxiety in school-age children and in training school psychologists to intervene with children with anxiety disorders. Featured articles and book chapters include children with autism, the relationship between sleep disorders and autism, the retention of students with autism at the community college, teaching sex education to adolescents with autism, and teaching word identification to children with autism. Additional published topics include techniques for the control of asthma in school-aged children.

Guiding Research Questions:
- How can we better understand childhood psychiatric disorders?
- What impact does the development of social skills have on the achievement of gifted children?
- How can we best diagnose and educate children with autism?
Current Research Projects:
Caterino is working on a project training school psychologists in intervention techniques to use with elementary school children with anxiety disorders. School psychologists are viewing an on-line training program to learn specific skills such as relaxation training, assertiveness, etc. and will then implement the program in their schools. They are using a mixed methods design to determine if the school psychologists' confidence improves after training and if they will implement these skills more after training.
In another project, Caterino and colleagues are looking at cyber-bullying in Germany at three different middle school sites and comparing the prevalence to a middle school in the United States. They have previously looked at the role of cyberbullying in Japan as compared to the United States and determined a greater prevalence in US schools. Factors which may account for this expected difference are explored. The results of this study are still being analyzed.
