Sean Tingle is an instructor in the Writers' Studio, a fully online first-year composition program in the College of Integrative Sciences and Arts. In this capacity, they primarily teach advanced first-year composition (ENG105) and oversee writing mentors who are part of a course-embedded peer tutoring program in which advanced undergraduate and graduate students mentor Writers' Studio students in their first-year writing courses.
Mx. Tingle's teaching and research foci and interests are primarily directed toward increasing student success and retention in online first-year composition programs, creating a welcoming and inviting online classroom environment, innovation in online instruction, mentorship for students, writing mentors, and peers, collaboration and team teaching, transfer of learning, active and interactive teaching and learning, making real-world connections to learning, and community-based writing.
Mx. Tingle also has experience teaching Technical Writing, Developmental Writing, and ENG101 and 102, as well as various topics in the Humanities, such as Intro to Cinema, Contemporary Cinema, Intro to Pop Culture, Contemporary Humanities, Multicultural Folktales, Hispanic Film, and an Honors Forum. They love engaging students in unconventional ways in order to inspire them to think about the world around them in various capacities they may never have considered otherwise.
Now, Mx. Tingle is pursuing new ways to reach audiences online via a health education podcast and initiative called "Health: It's Personal," having completed a graduate certificate from Arizona State University (ASU) in Digital Audience Strategy. This merges their love for the Humanities, education, and helping others, especially when it comes to fighting stigmas and misconceptions. They've recently applied to ASU's EdD in Leadership and Innovation program in order to continue learning about new ways to reach others with important information and bring more compassion into education.
On a more personal level, Mx. Tingle loves traveling all around the world in order to meet new people, experience new cultures, enjoy new food, and absorb the natural and human-made beauty of this world. They enjoy hiking, rock climbing, cycling, and exploring earth from above via light aircraft. They also one day hope to visit space.
