Long Bio
Mikhail Zaikovskii is a Ph.D. candidate in Linguistics and Applied Linguistics and a Teaching Associate for the Department of English at Arizona State University. Mikhail also holds Master's degrees in Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL) and Finance and Credit. His research interests encompass the interdisciplinary field of applied and sociocultural linguistics. Mikhail’s expertise includes folk linguistics, corpus linguistics, linguistic anthropology, and critical approaches to discourse analysis. His research primarily explores the intersections between language, identity, sexuality, transformative learning, and power, with a particular emphasis on LGBTQ+ communities. Mikhail has experience in diverse educational settings, teaching and mentoring adults and young adults in English as a Foreign Language and English as a Second Language contexts in both US and Russian higher education systems. He has designed and implemented training programs, prepared students for standardized tests, and taught various courses, including intensive English and English for Academic Purposes classes, first-year composition, and historical and sociolinguistics.
In the academic year 2019-2020, Mikhail Zaikovskii served as an Interdisciplinary Enrichment Fellow, and in 2022-2023, he held the position of a Connected Academics Fellow. Additionally, he was awarded the Wilfred A. Ferrell Memorial Fellowship for the year 2023-2024.
