Adegoke Oke joined ASU in 2006. He holds a bachelor of civil engineering degree from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Nigeria, an MBA from Cardiff Business School, Wales and a Ph.D. in Operations Management from Cranfield University’s School of Management, U.K. where he won the award for the best PhD and was also faculty for six years. He is presently a professor of supply chain management and the Hal Fearon Distinguished Fellow at the W.P. Carey School of Business, Arizona State University, USA where he teaches courses in strategic procurement, technology and innovation management, operations management and global supply chain management. He is a world authority on innovation management and global supply chain management and his research focuses on innovation management practices in manufacturing, services and supply chain organizations. He is also interested in healthcare supply chains, risk management and supply chain disruptions, particularly those relating to developing country contexts. He has published over 35 top-tier academic articles and written over 120 conference papers. His book, “Practical Innovation” was published by XanEdu in 2019. He has been widely sought to comment on topical issues by news media and visits several universities including Lagos Business School, Nigeria, Manufacturing Institute, UK, Sejong University, South Korea; KNUST, Ghana and as an extra-ordinary professor of the University of Pretoria, South Africa.
Before entering academia, Professor Oke was a project engineer and manager for more than eight years with Shell, Nigeria where he became a chartered engineer. He was an associate editor of the Journal of Operations Management from 2008 to 2015. He is currently an Associate Editor of International Journal of Operations and Production Management and serves on the editorial review boards of the Journal of Supply Chain Management and the Journal of Manufacturing Technology and Management. He has received several awards for his contribution to research, teaching and practice. In 2007, he received the 2007 Best Reviewer Award from the Journal of Operations Management; In 2004, he became a U.K. Advanced Institute of Management (AIM) scholar and in 2002, a Frank Batten Scholar of the College of William & Mary, USA; In 2016, he received the Huizingh Award for the most outstanding teacher at ASU; In 2019, he was appointed a Hal Fearon Research Fellow of CAPS research; In 2020, he received the Huizingh Award for the most outstanding service to undergraduate students at ASU.
Professor Oke is a Senior Technical Advisor to Center for Applied Research & Innovation in Supply Chain – Africa (a USAID funded initiative between ASU and KNUST, Ghana). He is the Co-Director of Frontier Economies Logistics Lab (FELL) at ASU, a Barrett Honors College Faculty Advisor at ASU and is a lead faculty on the Mastercard Foundation scholarship and strengthening institutional linkages program at ASU. He is a member of the Research Advisory Panel of the Africa Resource Center and a Research Advisor to Kuehne Foundation. He has taught executive development programs and consulted for several firms around the world including Virgin Atlantic Airways Limited, AXA Insurance Company, Halifax Bank of Scotland, Royal and Sun Alliance, Cryovac, British American Tobacco and Fujitsu Ltd., all in the U.K.; Chemonics, Skanska, Boeing, Chevron and Avnet, all in the USA.
