Dr. Vartenie Aramali, Ph.D., PMP®, M.ASCE, currently serves as a project manager in the Project Management Office at Arizona State University. She holds a Ph.D. in Civil, Environmental, and Sustainable Engineering from Arizona State University, a Master’s in Engineering Management from the American University of Beirut, and a Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering from Notre Dame University.
Dr. Aramali has more than a decade of combined industry, academic, and research experience in project and construction management. Her industry background includes five years with Arabian Bemco International Offshore (a lead EPC Contractor), where she held positions as Process Engineer, Proposal/Estimation Engineer, Project Engineer, and Deputy Proposal Manager/Projects Control Engineer. In these roles, she worked on large-scale engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) projects in the Middle East and North Africa, including power plant, oil and gas, and solar energy projects. Her responsibilities included engineering preliminary design, engineering design review, engineering management, procurement coordination with major international suppliers, project controls, cost estimation, project management, bid preparation, and project execution oversight.
In academia, Dr. Aramali served as a tenure-track assistant professor at California State University, Northridge, teaching courses in construction management, project management, and engineering, leading curriculum development, and mentoring students in research and capstone projects. She also taught mechanical engineering technology courses in Kuwait, where she led student design projects and managed engineering laboratories.
Her research focuses on earned value management systems (EVMS), socio-technical integration in project management, social sciences, and applications of technology such as artificial intelligence and machine learning for project planning, project management, and project performance analysis. She has contributed to multi-year, federally funded research projects for the U.S. Department of Energy, including the development and testing of the Integrated Project/Program Management Maturity and Environment Total Risk Rating (IP2M METRR) project management tool. She also supports federally funded initiatives such as the $90M Compact X-ray Free Electron Laser (CXFEL) project and the $13M Facility for Open Research in a Compressed Environment (FORCE) project.
Dr. Aramali has authored peer-reviewed journal articles in the Journal of Construction Engineering and Management, Project Management Journal, International Journal of Managing Projects in Business, Project Leadership and Society, and Journal of Management in Engineering, as well as multiple conference proceedings and technical reports. She serves as Vice President of Research for the College of Performance Management and collaborates on services in project management, construction management, data analysis, and research support.
She is a certified Project Management Professional (PMP®) and an active member of professional organizations, including the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), Project Management Institute (PMI), Construction Research Congress (CRC), and National Defense Industrial Association (NDIA).
I welcome opportunities to collaborate on exciting projects or initiatives. Feel free to reach out at [email protected].
