Clinical Assistant Professor, Secondary Science Education
Kelvin Arthur, M.Ed., is a Clinical Assistant Professor in Educator Preparation at the Mary Lou Fulton College for Teaching and Learning Innovation at Arizona State University and a doctoral candidate (ABD) in Leadership and Innovation at the Mary Lou Fulton College for Teaching and Learning Innovation at Arizona State University in the Division of Teacher Preparation. He works with undergraduate and graduate teacher candidates across secondary education pathways, supporting instructional design, assessment, disciplinary literacy, and clinical practice in middle and high school contexts.
Drawing on extensive experience as a secondary science and STEM educator, Kelvin's work emphasizes instructional coherence, data-informed decision-making, and team-based and clinical models of teacher preparation. He teaches and supervises candidates across methods, integrated STEAM learning experiences, instructional technology, sustainability and science literacy, and the full continuum of apprentice teaching, internship, and residency experiences.
Kelvin is actively engaged in faculty leadership and professional development focused on responsible, human-centered integration of generative artificial intelligence in educator preparation. His scholarly and practice-based inquiry explores how preservice teachers use generative AI when working with complex disciplinary texts and how these interactions shape instructional planning and professional judgment. His work is grounded in Universal Design for Learning and principled approaches to innovation that strengthen teaching practice and teacher development.
Background
Kelvin Arthur brings a diverse professional background to educator preparation, including 11 years of service in the United States Army and Ohio Army National Guard and over 14 years of experience teaching science and mathematics across grades 6–12. His work in education spans middle school, high school, and teacher preparation contexts, with a focus on instructional design, clinical supervision, and mentoring. In addition to his work in education, Kelvin is a published illustrator and creative practitioner.

Kelvin’s scholarly and professional interests center on the intersection of instructional design, learning sciences, and innovation in educator preparation. His areas of interest include:

- Self-regulation and social-emotional learning in secondary education
- Principled innovation in science curriculum and instructional design
- The use of generative artificial intelligence to support instructional planning, pacing, differentiation, and teacher decision-making
Personal Interests
Outside of his professional work, Kelvin enjoys drawing and illustration, playing drums, including the mridangam, and guitar, spending time outdoors biking and running, and engaging in contemplative practices such as meditation, Ayurvedic traditions, and yoga. He is a certified Hatha yoga instructor and values practices that support balance, reflection, and well-being. He also enjoys exploring Vedic texts and literature, as well as life at home as a devoted cat companion.
