Philip Horton, Assoc. AIA is a Clinical Associate Professor of Architecture, a Senior Global Futures Scientist, and he is one of the founding Co-Directors of the Center of Building Innovation (CoBI) at ASU. In Academic Year 2020/21 Horton served as the Interim Director for The Design School, having previously served in Assistant and Associate Director roles. Horton is currently participating in a research and teaching initiative entitled Climate Futures Exchange with partners at An Najaj National University (NNU) in Nablus, Palestine. Horton recently completed a transdisciplinary research initiative with the Global Futures Laboratory (GFL), the Bureau of Overseas Building Operations (OBO), Studio MA, and other units within ASU. Horton also serves as the Internship Coordinator for the architecture program, as the Architect Licensing advisor for the program, and as a member of the six-person Editorial Board for the ACSA/NCARB sponsored Professional Practice Education Library (ProPEL). Horton is also an Affiliate Faculty Member in both the Urban Climate Research Center (UCRC) and Biomimicry Center at ASU.
Horton previously acted as faculty advisor to Team ASUNM (Arizona State University and the University of New Mexico) on the SHADE house (Solar Homes Adapting for Desert Equilibrium) for the U.S. Department of Energy's 2013 Solar Decathlon, and as the studio professor for the Waimea Nui Community Development Initiative with the Native Hawaiian Homesteaders' Association. Horton also serves on the Joint Review Committee for the City of Tempe and ASU. He received a Master's in Architecture (M.Arch) with commencement honors from the Arizona State University's College of Architecture and Environmental Design (now the Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts), and he also recently completed the Stanford LEAD Executive Education program through the Graduate School of Business at Stanford University.
